Common questions

When should I see a physiotherapist?

If pain lasts more than a week or two, keeps coming back, limits everyday activities or sport, or follows an injury, surgery or stroke, a physiotherapy assessment is worthwhile. Seek urgent medical care first for severe trauma, chest pain, sudden weakness, or loss of bladder or bowel control.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. You can book directly. If you have recent X-rays, MRI reports or a surgeon's notes, bring them along — they help us plan your treatment.

What happens at the first visit?

We talk through your history and symptoms, assess how you move, and explain what we find in plain language. You leave with a treatment plan and usually a few exercises to start straight away.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing that lets you move freely and allows the painful area to be examined — for example shorts for knee problems or a T-shirt for shoulder problems.

Is dry needling painful?

Most people feel a brief prick and sometimes a short muscle twitch or ache as a trigger point releases. Mild soreness for a day afterwards is normal. Dr. Roy will explain the process and check you are comfortable throughout.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the condition and how long you've had it. Many common problems improve noticeably within a few sessions; post-surgical and stroke rehab take longer. We review progress regularly and never add sessions you don't need.
